Named in honor of Alexander Kuzmich Tokmakoff - Александр Кузмич Токмаков (1895-1971) - and his wife Lya. The Tokmakovs held Agricultural Lease 167 on the banks of the Katherine River from 1933 to 1959, when it was sold to J L Donnellan.

Alexander Tokmakoff was born in Chita on 24 April 1895 and spent 2 years in China during the 1920s. Was a Cossack farmer, trapped fur during winter, also worked as teacher.

1911 Ran away from home to join the Army. 

1911-1922 Senior Lieutenant, Koltchack's Siberian Army. 

1922 China and lives at Harbin. 

1925 He arrived to Brisbane on 6 September 1925 on Mishima Maru

1925 Bundaberg QLD, working in cane fields.

1928 Katherine, either (1) works on the railway as a sub-contractor (2) arrives too late to work on railway. 

1929 Adelaide River, farms block 109 with Zimin De julia, Sapitsky, Belokriloff and Mikhailoff 

1930 Katherine, farming block 167 with Fomin 

1933 Farms block 167 alone 

1934 Naturalized 

1935.1936 Harbin, marries Lya a dentist in May 1936 

1936 Katherine 

1938 Last season farming 

1939 Darwin drives a bulldozer. Takes part in clearing road, and land of FAAF Darwin 

1942 Evacuated to Alice Springs and later to Adelaide. Works in ammunition factory 

1947 Darwin works as a yardman / watchman at Government Stores. 

1959 Surrenders lease on block 167 

1960 Brisbane 

1970 Adelaide River, farms block 109 with Zimin, Dejulia, Sapitsky, Belokriloff 

1971 November dies of a heart attack in Moscow



Alexander married Leah in China in 1936. Tokmakoff's descendants include Irina (1937), Victor (1938), Peter (1940) and Veronica (1942). 

His father was Russian, mother - Mongolian. Had a brother Peter (1901-1979) who also came to Australia and farmed near Darwin.

Suffered from Dengue fever which affected him throughout his life. Lively, life and party, person. Described as 5' 7 ", dark brown hair, blue eyes.
