Named in honor of Andrei Ivanovich DeJulia - Дьюлия Андрей Иванович, who was born in Vladivostok in 1905. He migrated to Queensland in 1925 with his wife and Efrosinia (1907- ), possibly a sister.
Andrew worked in various jobs before moving to Katherine in 1926 to work on the Katherine River railway bridge. Later he worked on the construction of the railway in Mataranka and Birdum.
In 1929 he and his wife Lidia (1911- ) occupied land on the Adelaide River along with a number of other Russians. He tried buffalo shooting and mixed farming before returning to Katherine before World War II.
He was killed during the first air raid in February 1942 while working at Darwin Wharf.

1942 Killed working on wharf during first bombing raid. Andrew was a shunter, one of several men who pushed the railway trucks by hand to and from the ships' sides. De Julia, a member of the No.3 gang, was killed while working on the Neptuna.

Well read, literate man who was out of place among the other Russians, had five children. Dejulia's Creek was a local landmark, now lapsed. Located before Billycan Creek.
Described as 5' 10 ", brown eyes, dark hair. In Russian his surname was spelt Gejulia.
